Methods of laying a shed base

Below is different ways of how to lay a shed base for either our garden structures or for one you have bought else where.

As with any structure it is important to provide a firm level square base for your new garden building. Without a suitable base your building will be unstable and deteriorate rapidly. Base prepartion need not be elaborate and two simple alternative methods are suggested below. Other materials can be employed, whatever method you choose, it is always important that the end result is above all firm, level and square.

Floor Bearers

Treated timber or concrete Floor Bearers laid across the run of the floor joists, provide a simple alternative to a paved base. Level the overall area, removing turf or other vegetable matter. Then lay bearers one at each end and equally spaced between, ensuring that each bearer is level to the next by using a spirit level.

Slab Base

Providing the proposed site is not subject to regular flooding, your new building can be set directly on to a concrete pad or slabbed area. If layering slabs, firm up the sub-surface then laid some weed control fabric (Plantex) this will prevent weed coming through the slabs then bed slabs into sand or sand and cement dry mix.
